Medellin, Puerto Araujo, Villa de Leyva
We drove a nice 470km road from Medellin to Villa Leyva, trhough the mountains and dschungels. Sleept one night in a brand new trucker hotel, stopped in a sugar fruit making town, helped an old lady with some suncreme and arrived on the 17.2 in Villa de Leyva. A very nice and tranquille town in the mountains at 2300 m altitude. We stay in the Hostel Reancer, together with 4 German couples and their big expedition trucks. Looks kind of small our Defender against the 10t trucks :-). We stay here a couple of days and relax. Did horse riding and improving minors things on Thomas Defender, did horse riding, hiking aso.
We met a german guy Marko, who emigrated to here after his pansion and is working at a firefighter. And as Murphy wants it there is a big fire going on. 5 km per side. Problem is that they don't have enough water here as it has not rained since October. They are really fighting hart to extingish the fire. Big respect!
Meanwhile my gearbox was opened and it was completly wracked and needs a lot of parts to replace. Luckely all parts except one is securred sofar. And the last one should be availalbe over the weekend as well. So that with a little bit of luck the car could be picked up in Bogota Monday in a week. Keep fingers crossed.
